VOICES OF LIGHT is performed by a live orchestra, chorus and soloists. Live performances are usually accompanied by screenings of the rarely seen “restored“ version of Carl Dreyer’s great silent film, The Passion of Joan of Arc. What is required to perform VOICES OF LIGHT with THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC ? VOICES OF LIGHT is scored for a small orchestra, chorus and soloists. Specifically, the performers consist of: 2 Flutes 2 Oboes Strings (minimum 30 strings, more preferred) Digital Sampler Chorus (SATB, minimum 30, more preferred) 4 vocal soloists (SATB). The Passion of Joan of Arc requires 35mm projection equipment and a large screen (easily rented if necessary). The film is projected at the standard speed (24fps). The total length of the presentation is 84 minutes. How has VOICES OF LIGHT been received? Already there have been over 100 performances of VOICES OF LIGHT around the US, Canada, and internationally with ten more planned for the next 12 months. Many performances have sold out and received extended standing ovations. The critical and popular reception has been overwhelmingly positive (see the press extracts ). Is VOICES OF LIGHT difficult to perform? Not at all. The music was composed to make it as practical as possible to realize a beautiful performance with a small number of rehearsals. It has been performed successfully by groups as diverse as the National Symphony, the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, and the Colorado Symphony.
