Elvis Presley - That’s All Right - 10 August 1970, Opening Show - Re-edited with Stereo audio

Elvis’ 10 August 1970 rendition of That’s Alright, during the opening show of his third Las Vegas engagement, is instantly recognisable as the performance which opened the concert segment of both incarnations of Elvis’ 1970 documentary Elvis - That’s The Way It Is. This particular rendition however, carries far more significance than just being the first live song seen in the movies. Although he had performed the song at least once, during his previous Vegas opening night on 26 February, this would be the first time that he would use it to open his live show and it would become his standard opener for the next eighteen months or so before See See Rider would succeed it as the standard opener. In addition, this performance would be the only complete performance from that opening show to be included in either version of the movie despite over half an hour of footage, most of which are songs filmed in their entirety. Perhaps the most significant fact however, is that this was the very first song sung on stage by Elvis with the complete TCB band as at the his previous three engagements at least one member of the band was missing. During his August 1969 engagement Glen Hardin had not joined and in his place was Larry Muhoberac and during Elvis’second Vegas engagement and his three day, six show gig in Houston immediately after, Ronnie Tutt was missing with his place taken by Bob Lanning.
