Symphony No. 3 ( 1981 ) The Leipzig première of Schnittke’s Symphony No. 3 on 5th November 1981 was a real triumph. This was the first European performance of a Schnittke symphony in the presence of the composer. Unlike Symphony No. 1, the music contains only stylistic allusions, and no direct quotations. The op
