Scripps Oceanography’s Jennifer Vanos describes her work as a human biometeorologist working at the intersection of weather and human health. “What I’m interested in specifically is understanding how extreme heat and air pollution affect human health both now, and how humans have been or will be affected over longer time scales. Although I classify myself as a biometeorologist, there are very few biometeorology departments because it’s so interdisciplinary.
