Fred the Friendly Raccoon - Part 1

Fred is a very sweet, gentle and tame big wild juvenile raccoon who began visiting November 2012. His visits were sporadic for the most part. Many more videos updates have been shared of this handsome and sweet boy which are posted on our channel under the same title. Fred’s tameness possibly was the result of being an illegally kept pet who was subsequently set free. Unfortunately, no matter how well intentioned the actions were for turning him loose, the consequences may have set him up for a starvation death sentence. Young raccoons spend almost a year after birth with their mother to acquire skills to forage and evade predators in order to survive sufficiently. Sadly, many imprinted pet raccoons who are surrendered to wildlife rehabilitators are euthanized because the amount of time and costs it takes to rehabilitate them is difficult for most facilities to undertake in the time permitted mandated by a wildlife governing agency.
