This mining ghost town had its start back in 1906 when miners looking for gold had their dry washers and pans clogged with a white substance, later identified as tungsten. It’s peak was during World War 1 when it became the world’s number one producer of tungsten used heavily in wartime to strengthen steel armor and used in artillery shells. I’ve been to this town four times prior and each time I’ve found new stuff, whether it was mines to explore, buildings to check out or artifacts to admire. On this trip I explored one vertical mine shaft along with a few of the remaining buildings. I hope you all enjoy the history as much as I do!
