Arbre (France) — V — 2021 full length

The fifth album from this French project. The continuation of the previous album, three new chapters of melancholic and desolate wintry ambience. We are thrown to a frozen land, left to the elements, to wither and perish. As usually the production is quite lofi (but not as much as the IV) and the vocals, which are great, are quite hidden in the background purposely to enhance this wintry ambiance. The guitar leads the melody through these three chapters of this album with the help of the synths. I also think this time the harshness is slightly toned down with the synth coming slightly more to the foreground than previous album. The usual acoustic passages give a nice pagan touch and a breathing time for the listener. Even if the vocals are quite hidden, they carry a certain malevolence that contrasts with the melodic frozen atmosphere and makes this whole album a truly enjoyable but haunting experience.
