Cho Yong-Pil (조용필) “Don’t Wanna Live Inside Myself“ (“내 마음속의 그림자“) Bee Gees cover 1972

“Before there was BTS, Psy, Girls’ Generation or Big Bang, there was Cho Yong-pil. ¶ Widely referred to as ’Gawang,’ which literally means the king of singing, Cho occupies a unique place in the popular music genre in Korea as the O.G. idol singer, pioneer of many genres and the most influential figure in the scene today.“ — Yoon Min-sik for the Korea Herald (2018) Cho Yong-pil was still a member of the Kim Trio when this Bee Gee’s penned song was first issued on the solo album 조용필 스테레오 힛트앨범 1집 (Cho Yong-pil Stereo Hit Album 1st) released in Feb 1972 and quickly disappeared. It wasn’t until after 1976 when “돌아와요 부산항에“ (Come back to Busan Port) was re-recorded and released as a single that Cho Yong-pil’s career took off, though his second album would be delayed several years because of an accusation of “smoking marijuana“ which banned him from performing until 1979. His second album, 趙容弼 대표곡 모음 (Jigu Records 1980) is widely considered to be his debut album
