How the CIA Trained Violent Tibetan Extremists To Stoke Unrest In China

Tibet is a popular cause in the West with the Dalai Lama often revered as a wise elder. But in reality Tibet was a feudal society and oppressive religious hierarchy long allied with the U.S. against China. And in the 1950s the U.S. went so far as to train violent Tibetan extremists to break away from China. To discuss this forgotten history, Rania Khalek was joined by Ken Hammond, Professor of East Asian and Global History at New Mexico State University and an activist with the organization Pivot to Peace. This clip is from a longer interview with Ken about Taiwan. You can watch the full episode here: Listen to every episode of Rania Khalek Dispatches anywhere you get podcasts.
