Xi praised Tsinghua for its cultivating talent “both red and professional”, using a phrase coined during the Mao Zedong era. The Chinese leader, who studied chemistry at Tsinghua, also said the nation’s education system should produce a new generation of inquisitive thinkers loyal to the Communist Party.
