Donald Trump signs order to keep Guantanamo Bay detention camp open

In his first State of the Union address, Donald Trump announced that he has signed an executive order to keep the detention centre at Guantanamo Bay open. This decision is a major reversal of Barack Obama’s policy. Obama, on his second day in office in 2009, had signed the order to close down the centre but could never take it to conclusion. Guantanamo Bay detention centre is infamous for its human rights violations and has been condemned by international NGO. This recent decision by Trump opens up the possibility of sending new prisoners to the centre. At the moment, the centre has 41 prisoners. Subscribe to our channel: Follow us on Twitter:
