Vintage Chops and Grooves Part 2 New Orleans and Early Jazz - Sticky Wicket In this video we are looking in depth at the drumming styles of the iconic: Warren ’Baby’ Dodds and Zutty Singleton. We are also going on a journey through the history of the different drum kit techniques that were being developed at the time. These include: how to play effective drum fills, how to accompany your fellow musicians during chorus solos, playing the “Big 4“, and dixieland style drumming. Sticky performs two great pieces during this video with one appearing near the start, and one right at the very end, these tunes are: ’Back O’Town Blues’ - Henry ’Red’ Allen (This is a later recording but fits well with our video to demonstrate the styles and techniques of the day).
