Following the Second World War, there were a number of military generals who were sentenced to death and were executed for war crimes. But one forgotten Italian General who was executed by Mussolini was Emilio De Bono, who was 77 when he was shot by a firing squad. De Bono had a long history inside of the Italian military, and had fought during World War 1 and also he was involved in the Second World War. But ultimately he lost faith in Mussolini, and was part of a group who voted to oust him from power. When Mussolini was released from prison in the Gran Sasso Raid, he sought to punish those who betrayed him. Emilio De Bono was arrested, and was one of 5 men placed on trial in the Verona Trial. He was sentenced to death for treason, and because of this was executed by being shot by a firing squad.
