Classic Swedwoods outing this time. -15C temp. I almost forgot how easy things get when it’s really cold. Fire is easy. You don’t sweat as much and don’t freeze. First time for as long as I can remember that snow and cold came and it didn’t melt the next day. If this be the norm I would be a happy camper :)
This outing I wanted to try two things. A new tarp setup that don’t need much cordage and anchoring. It turned out to be spacious and awesome. Basically a tripod that holds up the Finnish style Loue shelter. Turned out that the DD tarp was not exactly as I thought with the loops. I will mod it so I can set it up perfect next time with this configuration. Second thing, and Ive said it before, my X-frame saw design is what I find best sawing with. There is some kind of stability and balance that is superior. The normal bucksaw you can understand but why its better than my various bowsaw designs is beyond me. One thing I didn’t like with my previous X-frames are they demand cordage on three or at least two points. Im allergic to designs in everything from shelters to snowshoes that demand many different strips of cordage. I don’t find it practical. It produces waste. I like one long cord in a construction or none at all. (like my friction fit bushcraft chair). So I have been thinking a while how to make the x-frame lock together without cordage. I had my doubts about this idea (I was certain It would give under high pressure) but it worked right away. The thing was not even carved perfectly but was like forged in iron under pressure. Things like that gives me joy and are why I’m still doing this.
Thank you very much for watching!
