The Raveonettes - Curse The Night

Curse The Night is the second single from The Raveonettes album Observator. To gather inspiration for the album ’Observator’, Sune Rose Wagner travelled to Venice Beach, where he ended up going on three day drug and alcohol bender due to depression he was suffering because of back injury. Songs on the album are inspired by observations of the people he met during this time. The album was recorded in two to three weeks at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles because of Wagner’s desire to record where The Doors as he is in saying “did all their best stuff“ and where he goes on to say that “the environment is surrounded by all those ghosts of genius“ In regards to the truly spine tingling love song ’Curse The Night’ the video was shot in the Raveonettes home town Copenhagen and they thought it’d be a cool way for the band to show their fans where they are from and since they’d never shot a video in Copenhagen, they saw an opportunity to revisit the city with fresh eyes and portray it in a new light. ’Curse The Night’ is an extremely visual song and required an atmospheric video to go with the moody track. There’s a loneliness and solitude to the music that called for an empty city at night. The core of the video is inspired by the drumbeat at the beginning of the track. The idea of two kids with drums came up after gathering a motley crew of youngsters in an empty city after dark. Towards the end of the song there’s a very melodic bridge that breaks from the rest of the track and a twist to the video is added here, where an element of surprise, something unexpected that wasn’t a cute finale ends the video. Basically if you take the story of The Pied Piper and mix it with The Town or Point Break and you have the plot.
