Il cielo in una stanza - Mina Mina Mazzini is, for Ripley, one of those many elements of a life that he longs for but can only inhabit furtively; of a plane of possibilities that has been, by chance, destined to be witnessed through daydreams. A life that contrasts with the one he has been designated to live. A life of poverty, of nothing, of crime, a life of being unwanted. He comes to her music, to Mina’s music, through this new life, through Dickie, through one of her vinyl records. In this scene, perhaps for the first time, we see his daydreams materialize before his eyes. Just as Andrew Scott embodies Tom Ripley, Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, and Eliot Sumner as Freddie Miles, with the original version of “Il cielo in una stanza“ from 1960, Hildegard de Stefano embodies Mina Mazzini.
