Shortly before that, his girlfriend Natasha found among her stuff an old demo tape with an unknown song Viktor recorded sometime in the late ’80s. She thought it was a sign, contacted the remaining band members, and handed the tape over to them. Together, they decided to re-record the song in a studio as a birthday gift to their late friend. Despite the awful quality of the recording they all had to work with, everything worked out well, and the song was born again. It was the first time since the fall of 1990 that the guys gathered as KINO. “Ataman,“ which means “chieftain“ in Turkic, became the first track by the band in 22 years and the last for drummer Guryanov, who passed away in July 2013.
