Russia: Putin venerates relics of St. Sergius and Herman in Valaam Monastery

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended Valaam Monastery on the day of remembrance of the Valaam miracle workers, St. Sergius and Herman, Tuesday. The Russian leader visited the Transfiguration Cathedral and venerated the relics of St. Sergius and Herman. Afterwards, Putin put a candle at the Valaam Icon of the Mother of God. The Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia accompanied the Russian president during the visit. Valaam Monastery draws in over 100 thousand tourists every year.
