Singapore approves COVID-19 breath test, trial to begin at Tuas Checkpoint

Singapore has approved a locally developed breath test that promises to detect COVID-19 within 60 seconds. It’s the first test to receive provisional approval from the Health Sciences Authority. The technology will be trialled on incoming buses and lorry drivers at Tuas Checkpoint. Its developer Breathonix is working with the Health Ministry to deploy the test alongside compulsory antigen rapid tests. People who test positive for COVID-19 in the breath test will still need to take the gold-standard PCR swab test for confirmation.
