Thank you to everyone who still finds enjoyment in these silly old Gmod videos. It has been crazy to watch this video go from a quick and sloppy attempt at imitating a popular video format, that released to no particular fanfare compared to other videos at the time, to now being celebrated as a nostalgic and timelessly funny symbol of the era. Personally, I will never be able to watch this video without seeing all the mistakes I made as a young and stupid video editor and all the shortcuts I took trying to get it done quickly with less effort, but I can see how it has somehow remained strangely accurate to the modern TF2 experience even though the video is now older than some people playing the game. Anyway, I hope the new generations of players find videos like this one as fun as I did back in the day, and that it encourages more people to make fun projects, whether in Gmod, SFM or something else, like we sometimes continue to see even in the current landscape where mass-produced “content“ usually takes center stage in the recommendation algorithm. Despite everything, there seems to still be an audience for silly TF2 videos every once in a while. Maybe I’ll find the time to make another video at some point in the future, but I’m going to be busy with some other projects for the next couple of years. In the meantime, there are lots of better channels to check out, like ceno0, CrazyScoutFIN, Doctor Lalve, Eltorro64Rus, STBlackST and more. There is also Hololive and the VTuber community, which is what’s given me the most hope for the future of the platform in recent years. I hope they continue to be successful for years to come, and show that there is still room for creators to have fun and put passion into what they do, despite YouTube’s best efforts to discourage it. EDIT 2016-04-02: Two million, holy shit EDIT 2013-05-17: One million views wat is dis EDIT 2012-08-29: So, apparently this video has been up for like two years now, and since it’s getting so ridiculously popular for whatever reason, I thought I’d tell people a bit about the development of the video, for fun :P First of all, I really don’t understand why this video has become so popular. I started making this video in 2010 after seeing lots of other funny “in a nutshell“ videos, and I thought it would be fun to contribute to the fad. This video (if I remember correctly) only took less than 12 hours to make, with editing and everything. I love all the people who like this video and subscribe to my channel, but I really don’t understand why this small project, mostly made out of boredom, got more popular than any of my other videos that I spent more than 3 days making. I really thought this video would just be a small funny thing and that my “TF2 Poop“ videos would remain the most popular videos on my channel. Most inspiration came from KernCoreVideo’s “dm_store“ video (formerly known as dm_store in a nutshell). I have no idea why the upload dates say my video was uploaded before that one, I swear I got a lot of ideas from seeing that video. For example the two pyros spamming flames in one place. Maybe the upload date for this video isn’t even correct. I don’t know when the Gmod Toybox was added, but I do know I used some tools from there in this video (For example the “Ownage Sploder“ at 2:10 or something like that that), and it feels like the Toybox was only added like a year ago. Could just be me, though. The video editing isn’t that great in this either. A great example is the “lip sync“ on the sniper in the “holy f**k“ scene. I actually wanted him to say something slightly more complicated there, but I didn’t add that because I wanted to upload the video as fast as possible. Also, making videos with unregistered fraps and an old computer (Pentium 4 560 @ 3.6 GHz, Radeon HD 3850, 2 GB RAM) isn’t that easy. If I made this video today, it would probably be ten times better. For people who are looking for tips on how to make good videos, I’d say to try to be as professional as possible, while still having fun making it. I see a lot of new videos made in Windows Movie Maker that are ridiculously laggy, extremely slow-paced, recorded with bad game recording software, and has lots of small mistakes in it. If you want to make good videos, try to make them high quality, fast-paced (it makes a lot of difference) and also make sure not to have dumb looking things like a fraps logo at the top of the screen (Like I’m saying, this video isn’t perfect). In conclusion, I don’t understand how this video is so popular, but I guess it’s because of the thumbnail and the fact that it’s unusually long for an “in a nutshell“ video. I don’t upload videos very often, but expect much better ones in the future when I get a better computer. :D END OF EDIT 2012-08-29.
