America has an access to justice crisis. Poor, working, and middle class Americans simply cannot afford to hire a lawyer. The situation has become so dire that urgent and drastic measures are necessary to ensure that all Americans are able to obtain legal representation. The answer is deregulating law, eliminating state bar associations, and allowing literally anyone to act as a lawyer or advocate. Whether that person be a paralegal. A graduate student. A legal assistant. An accountant. Whoever can provide meaningful legal services should be able to do so. The alternative - the status quo - is unacceptable. The benefits of this model far outweigh any perceived risks.
