China turns waste into treasure, using 600 tons of garbage to build highways

China’s infrastructure capacity is widely recognized, and it has gained the title of “Infrastructure Maniac.“ Among its extensive road network, there is a special highway built using six million tons of garbage, spanning 122 kilometers. This innovative approach has attracted international attention and praise. China has established a comprehensive garbage disposal system and is promoting garbage classification. While landfill and incineration have been common waste disposal methods globally, China is finding ways to use waste more efficiently. For example, the country has utilized construction waste, such as bricks and cement blocks, as roadbed materials, reducing the need to purchase gravel from distant sources.
