Sultans of Swing (solo) - Dire Straits // Amy Turk (+ David Stanton)

My first adventure with new friend, @harp_e_harp ! Expertly accompanied by @DaveStantonator ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When I was first introduced to the Harp-E, a lightweight, affordable electroacoustic harp you can built from a kit, one thing stood out to me: it can do bends. Bends! Because of the innovative design, which flips where the strings are tied and wound, a traditional-ish lever system can suddenly create bends and microtones on this brilliant little harp. And so of course, the very first thing I wanted to do was play a guitar solo - because I have ALWAYS wanted to be able to do bends. I decided to tackle Sultans of Swing, an old childhood favourite from road trips in the back of my parent’s car, because I knew its solo sections would lend themselves well to the harp - clean tone, arpeggios - but I had even more fun than I expected adapting the parts with bends. I threw all my classical harpist ideas of the lever harp out of the window and did my best to work on timing bends in the bluesiest way I could, before discovering that the Harp-E’s unique design would also allow me to do vibrato - suffice to say that really blew the whole thing wide open. I used a tweaked tone that I liked from @NeuralDSP’s wonderful Archetype: Cory Wong to find my sound for this first outing.
