Plovdiv is the oldest city in Europe, a truly historic city in Southeastern Europe and one can easily explore it by foot. Plovdiv was known by the name Philippopolis after Philip II of Macedon. Its rich cultural life, beautiful ancient setting, and laid back atmosphere attract many foreigners but it’s a popular weekend destination for Bulgarians as well.
