The PS1 version would first release in the west as Revelations: Persona with heavy localization changes and much of the content stripped from the game. A more faithful translation would come in the form of the PSP version, titled Shin Megami Tensei: Persona to keep in line with all Megami Tensei releases in the west at the time. The original Persona on PlayStation in its entirety was never released in the west. The game is quite well-known for its localization/translation history and was even popular during its initial release. However, newer players in the Persona fandom find P1 harder to get into. I feel as though the flaws of the first Persona game are greatly exaggerated while some of its other qualities are a bit over sold. Persona 1 is over hated, but not underrated.
