First aid ship to Gaza sets off from Cyprus

가자지구에 해상 경로로 보급 물자 조달 시작 Good morning I’m Kim Siyoung . And now we turn over to stories from around the world. We start off with the first shipment of aid bound for Gaza by sea since the outbreak of war following attacks from Hamas on Israel on October 7th. The “Open Arms“, an aid ship carrying 200 tonnes of relief supplies for Palestinians in Gaza set sail from Cyprus on Tuesday. As Gaza has no functioning port, the international charity behind the mission, World Central Kitchen, is building a jetty to receive the aid. The Spanish NGO’s ship left the port city of Larnaca towing a barge containing around 200 tonnes of flour, rice, canned vegetables, and protein. It will take up to two days to arrive in Gaza. WCK said that a further 500 tonnes of aid in Cyprus is ready for dispatch, saying that a second vessel would depart within the next few days. The United Nations welcomed the opening of the maritime corridor for the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid, however, emphasized the importance of land routes, as the scale of aid delivery by land is incomparable. #Israel #Hamas #Gaza #Cyprus #Aid_ship #가자지구 #지원 #해상_경로 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-03-13, 09:00 (KST)
