I’ve been paying more attention lately to the electronic, sampled side of music, and I just kept noticing more and more the incredible magnitude of influence it has on modern music. I know it’s sort of an anti-traditionalist point of view, but I think that it’s a really sweet new medium and the strides and innovations possible are pretty much endless.
This lead me to start exploring more experimental artists that stand alone on this medium, which eventually brought me to Bonobo, a British sampling artist with a subdued and elegant sound and a really strange sense of humor (I guess that’s a given seeing as his stage name refers to a chimpanzee).
He uses eclectic mixtures of traditional ethnic sounds (sitars, bongo drums etc...) paired with driving bass lines and syncopated rhythms to come up with a really unique sound. One of the things I love about his music is the way he subtly develop
