At the time of the first recording in the Dominican Republic, Bachata was not yet established as a genre in the music industry. This Antillean bolero, with its roots in Cuba’s Trova music “Bolero Guajiro“, was first known in D.R. as “Bolero Campesino“ then later known by several other nicknames including “Musica De Amargue“. It officially gained its name “Bachata“ in the early 1970s although it carried a negative stigma caused by its controversial past.
