Biden Defends US Giving Ukraine Cluster Munitions, Zelensky In Turkey, Russia’s Air Defence Warning

Volodymyr Zelensky said he believes his country will regain control over Crimea, in a statement made during his visit to Istanbul. Zelensky said he spoke about the situation in Crimea with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Zelensky said he was “happy to hear” that Turkey supports Ukraine’s bid to join the NATO alliance. Erdogan said that Ukraine deserves NATO membership and called for a “fair peace” that will create no losers. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that Russia should “create a reliable air defence system”. The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council said that reliable air defences were needed to counter NATO’s extended range of weapons. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is against the use of cluster munitions in the battlefield, a UN spokesperson said. This comes after US Pentagon announced a new military aid package that includes controversial cluster munitions for Ukraine.
