Skinliv / Vermisst (Denmark / Poland) - S/T (Split 2022)

An excellent alliance between these two recent hordes of atavistic Black Metal, truly looking for the past for inspiration. Skinliv delivers here its second Split, and again with a slight style variation. Definitely with a sound closer to their debut album, “Uaar“, although certainly less chaotic, Skinliv presents four tracks of pagan fury and nocturnal mysticism, resorting to mostly mid-paced, straightforward riffing, that is however executed with excellent songwriting and precision, and perfectly matched by the keyboard mist, which definitely reminds me of the sounds of early Nargaroth and Nagelfar demos. Sometimes the riffing gets more intricate, and its accompanied by the pulsating basslines, also reminiscing with the Norwegian tyrants in Kvist. Vermisst on the other hand delivers two tracks of droning, Black Metal, drenched in lupine misanthropy and nocturnal decrepitude, delivered by hazey and repetitive guitar lines, that definitely reminisce with Strid, and accompanied by the moonlit gaze of keyboard incantations, something to definitely please fans of Necrostrigis or Ravenmoon Sancturary. The second track however comes in the form of droning, ritualistic Dark Ambient. Released on LP format via Nebular Carcoma Records.
