2022 marks the centenary of one of the biggest discoveries in archeology.
In November 1922, English archaeologist Howard Carter and amateur archaeologist and philanthropist George Carnarvon
discovered the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun (KV62) in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor.
Work began on November 1, 1922, and this was the seventh season of excavations in the Valley of the Kings.
On November 2, they began to demolish the shacks in front of the tomb of Ramses VI, and on the morning of November 3, a step was found under one of them.
By the afternoon of November 24, all 16 steps were cleared, behind them was a sealed door to the tomb.
On the door, Carter saw prints of a seal with the name of Tutankhamen and at the same time what researchers often encountered - traces of robbers ...
Excavations in the tomb of Tutankhamen continued until 1933.
Tutankhamen was an 18th dynasty pharaoh of the New Kingdom who ruled Egypt from about 1332-1323 BC.
The father of Tutankhamun is supposedly the reformer pharaoh Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV), the mother is the “younger lady“, the daughter of Pharaoh Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye.
Tutankhamun was married to Ankhesenpaamun, the third daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti.
The exposition of this exhibition presents exact copies of items found in the tomb.
