Ultimate Doom - Ultra-Violence Speedrun in 20:06

Runner: Zero-Master Date: 2019-10-06 IWAD: Category: UV-Speed Map: Ep1-Ep4 Source Port: Crispy Doom v4.3 Time is approximately 20:06 It’s not possible to record a single segment demo for ultimate doom as a full run because of the episode format, so RTA (Real Time Attack) time is used instead, which means I can use saving/loading. That’s also why the video quality is shit, since I have to record while playing. 54 second improvement over the previous record by Dime. E1: Had quite a decent start, and I hadn’t seen the demon after yellow key door on E1M5 survive a direct rocket in my previous attempts, so obviously that means it had to happen this time. Lost a bit of health and time, and I dropped down to 4% health later on.. but I survived :) Unforutantely I missed a rocket and had to shotgun down 2 demons in the exit room which cost me even more time. Then E1M6 happened, I try to just rush through the door and if the shotgunner doesn’t shoot he will block the door from closing (if he doesn’t I have to reset since it costs 30 seconds), this time he decided to shoot. Then I just gambled and hoped he’d somehow end up under the door anyways and he did :) A slightly different route compared to the episode run (which doesn’t count E1M8) used to grab some extra rockets, cost me 10 seconds or so, but I save way more on E1M8 when dealing with the barons. E2: The demons mid way through E2M1 is quite a dangerous area, you can get boxed in and killed quickly if you are unlucky. There’s also a slightly different route here for RTA, since it’s faster to get the plasma rifle on E2M2 to kill the cyberdemon with cells instead of rockets. E2M6 void glide switch press were both a bit slow. I was hoping to have more cells available for the cyberdemon, it saves quite a bit of time to use plasma instead of rockets. E3: This episode is quite straightforward, there’s not too much that can go wrong. Mostly the cacodemons on E3M1 can block you and kill you easily at times, and the second worst thing would be getting blocked by lost souls on E3M7 when going for the jump to the exit. Only difference between episode run is getting the BFG on E3M4. E4: Looks like I skipped the menu when switching episode by buffering inputs during the wipescreen effect, I checked if this is possible in DOS and it is, so I could have saved a few seconds doing this on previous episodes. It’s possible to skip the wipescreen effect between levels using prboom sourceport, but that would be unfair. Really good start, everything went pretty much perfect on E4M1. I was planning on using only a single BFG on E4M2 to clear out the cacodemons, didn’t really work out and I got blocked so I went with 2 after loading. Failed the RJ first try on E4M3, was a little bit off. E4M6 went mostly smooth, getting shot only once by the cyber and then getting the chance to kill him in 2 BFG’s is really good. I don’t really care about losing a couple of second jumping from the pillar to the exit at the end here, wasn’t going to be under 20 minutes anyways. Overall a decent run, shame it was just a little bit short of under 20 minutes. I don’t like playing without demo recording too much, sub 20 minutes is definitely possible, maybe I will do that some day or someone else will :) Sourceport used: Crispy Doom v4.3
