The Yazoo People: Tunica Branch - Mississippi Delta, USA, “Turtle Island“

They are closely related to other Tunica-language-speaking Peoples, especially, the Tunica, Koroa and Tioux Peoples. Very little is known about their language, which is believed to be related to the Tunica language, a language isolate. In 1699, the Yazoo, like the Chickasaw People, were under the influence of the English traders from Carolina on the Atlantic coast. In 1729, the Yazoo and Koroa warriors joined with the Natchez warriors in attacking the French colonists, in a unified attempt to drive them out of the region, altogether. “The Natchez War“ was a disaster for French settlements in Louisiana, as the colonists withdrew, in retreat to New Orleans. It was even more of a disaster for the Natchez and Yazoo Peoples. The French allied with the Choctaw, for retaliation.. and achieved overwhelming defeat of the Natchez and Yazoo Peoples. They sold survivors into slavery, on Caribbean plantations. The Chickasaw warriors captured many other Yazoo men and sold them into slavery, to Carolina-based traders. This ended the Yazoo People as an independent tribe.. and their survivors intermarried With the Chickasaw, Choctaw, African.. and other Peoples. ------------------------------------------------ ***** I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video and employ my borrowing of them, with much respect and thanks.
