One-man Irish atmospheric post-black metal band Atlantic follows up his 2022 debut with a new demo of enchanting wildness, released to tape through Fiadh Productions. Following on from his Foothill Roots incarnation, this is an equally natural-element focussed project, emerging from shady forests into the harsh elements of the coast. The 25 minutes of these four pieces bring the raging squalls and tumultuous energies of the great eponymous ocean onto the shores of West Ireland, with a doomy ominousness, and foaming lightness that channels raw dirt and earth as much as brine and sky. I very much appreciate the ethereal stoic majesty of that cover art too. The Black Sands demo is the second release from C.H.’s sweeping project, telling a story of loss and nostalgia, the battles that come with it, healing through nature and the cold waters of the Atlantic.
