Thousands left without power as Cyclone Jasper rips through north Qld

40,000 homes and businesses are without power across Far North Queensland in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper. The weather system has been downgraded to a tropical low and is slowly churning its way inland. Jasper has caused significant rainfall across the region which has led to flash flooding in areas around Cairns, Mossman and Cooktown. Crews are actively working through Far North Queensland to clean up debris and assess the damage. Conditions are still expected to be hazardous as emergency services say the threat posed by Cyclone Jasper has not passed.
