The Jacksons (with Michael Jackson) - Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground) (1979) • TROS TOP50

To commemorate what would have been the 63rd anniversary of Michael Jackson, tomorrow, August 29, 2021, we publish this early Jacksons tv appearance from 1979. The Jackson 5, later known as the Jacksons, were an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. The group was founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana by brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, with younger brothers Marlon and Michael Jackson joining soon after. “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)“ is a song of their 1978 album Destiny, and released as a single in 1979. It peaked at No. 7 in the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1979. The chorus “let’s dance/let’s shout (shout)/shake your body down to the ground“ was inspired by an ad-lib from Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up“: “Let’s dance/let’s shout (shout)/gettin’ funky’s what it’s all about“ On 31 March 1979 it reached #3 in the Dutch Top 40. This recording was broadcast by Dutch TROS TV program TROS Top 50 Rock Planet on 10 March 1979. This is a different take from the video we released 2 year
