’La Péri’ (The Flower of Immortality)

The original ’La Péri’ (1843) was Romantic era ballet with a libretto by Theophile Gautier, choreography by Jean Coralli and music by Friedrich Burgmuller. It concerned a man’s search for immortality and encounter with a mythological Péri. The title role was created by Carlotta Grisi. In 1911, Serge de Diaghilev commissioned Paul Dukas to compose a score for a new version of the ballet. The designs were by Leon Bakst, one of which I’ve included in this video, the costume for the Péri.
