#IFD Residence Fire with fatality

3:47 PM - One man seriously injured after fire breaks out in his home at 3537 E Morris St. Unclear on what caused the fire - under investigation. #IFD Firefighters made a well coordinated attack and marked the blaze under control in 30 minutes. Partial collapse of the rear. No firefighter injuries. The man was transported emergent to Eskenazi in critical condition. 8:30 PM - IFD/IMPD Fire investigators confirm that the man injured in the fire this afternoon at 3537 E Morris St. has died as a result of severe injuries sustained in the fire in his home. He is 67 years old. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing. Preliminary information from the occupant prior to his transport, indicated that combustibles too close to a space heater may have started the blaze. This fatality makes the 10th fire fatality in the IFD Service District for 2023.
