On December 3, the UN Office in Geneva (UNOG) hosted the grand opening of the exhibition “Orenburg Shawls“ and artworks by Russian artists from the collection of the international journal “Russian Gallery – XXI Century“. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov, and UNOG Director-General Tatiana Valovaya emphasized that Orenburg downy shawls are an integral part of Russia’s cultural heritage. They are closely associated with winter, warmth, and the centuries-old traditions of folk art. A highlight of the event was the presentation by the Director of the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts, Doctor of Cultural Studies, and Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Yuri Komlev. He not only shared the history of Orenburg shawls, their intricate craftsmanship traditions, but also presented unique shawls from the museum brought to Geneva.
