This is a dragline excavator and yes its Russian. Built in 1979, it is like a crane that uses a network of ropes and chains connected to a big bucket. It can move massive amounts of earth, but why does it have to waddle like a Penguin? Well, at 600 thousand pounds, it is so heavy that railroad tracks around worksite were sinking into the ground. So it was equipped with big pads resembling a penguin’s underbelly. Using this mechanism, the big arm lifts and shifts the entire excavator a few feet ahead before gently placing it down. But moving so slowly also evokes a sense of nostalgia, which is why the cabin is decorated like a grandma kitchenette. References: :
