The Legend of Hillbilly John AKA Who Fears the Devil - 1972

Based on the character ’John the Balladeer’ (AKA Silver John) created by author Manly Wade Wellman, this ultra-obscure film adaptation was directed by John Newland in 1972. Loosely based on two of Wellman’s short stories, it stars folk singer Hedges Capers as John; a wandering minstrel from the hills of Appalachia who fights the forces of evil with his silver-stringed guitar. Featuring some great stop-motion animation and supporting turns from Denver Pyle, Harris Yulin, and the legendary R.G. Armstrong, this film was never released on DVD and has been out of print since the mid-1980s.
