It takes a look at the early warning signs of the disease through various narratives. (Fonda had a five decade spanning career in the film and television industry beginning in 1935. He is also the father of the popular actress; Jane Fonda.) The film opens with scenes of social gatherings with guests consuming alcohol such as at a holiday dinner (:14) or at a local bar (:21). A martini is poured garnished with olives (:31). A couple drinks in bed together (:39). The film is presented by Charles Cahill and Associates (1:18). Henry Fonda makes his appearance at (1:52) to give further detail into alcoholism and how it affects the user and those around the user (1:52). The first case depicted is of a traveling salesman who has developed a drinking habit (2:39). He states entertaining potential clients is vital and often encourages drinking (2:53). He meets his clients at a bar (3:31). At a gas service station, an employee discusses his early start with the substance in high-school (4:18). He continues to drink as he and friends pound back beer cans (4:50). A woman drinks coffee at work, nursing a hang over (5:06). Scenes from previous evening show her at a party drinking heavily to the point of black out (5:32). A hostile husband returns home from work (6:39) as his wife tells him of the evenings dinner plans (6:39). As the husband pours himself a drink, the wife begs him to refrain (6:54). This case highlights the personality changes which come with alcoholism (7:20). A young mother unloads groceries from the store (7:55), pours herself a drink and stashes the bottle so her husband won’t find it. She states the alcohol helps her to relax so she can be the happy little housewife her husband expects (8:32). A fashion designer pours herself a drink while on the phone with a subordinate over a fabric issue (9:43). She states without the alcohol she couldn’t make it through her high stress job (9:58). At the end of the day, a bus driver shows off a gift for his daughter (11:01). His supervisor offers him a ride home (11:53) which he refuses and instead heads to the bar ignoring his family commitments (12:22). A labor worker is approached by his supervisor over missed work (12:28). As the boss leaves, the employee admits to drinking heavily and states he will continue to do so (13:09). A jogger in the park pauses grasping at his side as he experiences a cramp (14:00). He was once in prime physical condition though alcoholism has slowed him down (14:19). At an office in a high rise building, a secretary struggles to follow irradic directions from her confused boss (15:26). Years of alcoholism have lead to deterioration of his physical and mental state (16:47). Fonda returns on screen to summarize the ten various early warning signs of alcoholism (17:47). Fonda encourages a method of abstinence (20:12). The film begins to wrap up with a list of organizations which are available to help with substance abuse (20:27).
