The trio for violin, cello and piano was composed in 2022 and has as its theme the current war in Ukraine. In all three movements Evgeny Kissin expresses his strong wish for peace and freedom for the Ukrainian people and all mankind. Quotations include two Ukrainian folk songs, “I’ll go to the grave“ and “Woe is me, woe“, as well as the Ukrainian national anthem. World-class pianist Evgeny Kissin was born in Moscow in 1971.
