Moving a Monolith Old School - Ancient Technology on Display
Mussolini’s Monolith
Compilation of footage from the journey of Monolito Foro Italico.
The Monolith of 250 tonnes was first cut then moved down a mountainside, 9 miles to the journy was mostly done on simple wooden sledsm the often repeated claims that wooden sled or rollers would crush under the 100 t Serapeum coffers or the 800 tBaalbek trilithons is just wrong. A small amount of wood easily supports those weights. A standard sized chessboard would be more than enough timber to suppor the Serapeum, a small dining table would support the Baalbek Trilthons. Hemp fibre rope also suprememly strong and capable of dealing with those massive journey down the mountain required the Monolith be supported, so the equipment for lowering has the same strength as lifting. While the monolith was headed down the mountain there would inevitably be places were they would also have to go on the coast the monolith was transported onto a barge and then taken down the coast to the Tiiber River. Unlike the Egyptians who would have had the NIle current helping them the Monolith had to go upriver, the Italians waited for the Tiber to in Rome the Monolith was transported to its final location. Using a winch you can see a few men pulling the massive weight along rollers. Unlike it’s journey down the mountain from the quarry the equipment to move the Monolith through Rome was more the move and the lift nothing but ancient technology was being used. Pulleys and winches, the very same things that sailors have been using since the first ships began fishing and trading. Everything seen there was used in the 1500’s to move massive obelisks within Rome. 1500 years earlier massive Egyptian obelisks were moved to Rome the same ’s all sail boat technology. Winches and pulleys.
