Thousands of villagers in southern India clashed during a centuries-old ’karrela samaram’, known as the ’Banni Festival,’ throwing fireballs and wielding sticks in a chaotic reenactment of the victory of the Hindu god Shiva the Destroyer over the demons Mani and Mallasura.
