As a person who supports strong border policies for humanitarian reasons, as well as economic reasons (open policies are bad for both countries), I have now for a few years found this piece showing immigration and world poverty using accurately scaled representation using these gumballs to be a great tool. Whenever someone starts talking about ’cultural problems’ in talking about latino migration to the US southwest, the less stoic part of me almost cringes. I know what they think they mean, but as I say - ill gotten gains, ill founded gains. If anything, this migration is restoring the balance to its historical norms - the historical aberration was in fact the mass migration of European descended peoples into the Mexican north-west during the 19th century. So that is not my concern. I’m never confused to see Mexicans trying to cross the Rio Grande to gain access to historically Mexican lands. But we don’t play historical justice with the lives of real living people. The truth is that almost everyone of every race, color, creed opposes open door immigration, including most Latinos in the US southwest. The real problems with mass migration in our case are the vast distortions to labor markets, and how the entire scheme is designed to provoke so-called nativist reaction. The left is never honest about their real aims with mass migration. It is meant to ’bankrupt’ the system and create such a labor crisis that ’people do crazy stuff’. The problem is that radicalized people will be operationalized to do things along Sorosian trajectories by scheming handlers of astroturfed social movements. The elites want to create social strife and civil disorder in the country. Both through the legalization of criminal migration into the US, but also through the weaponization of the forces of reaction which emerge in opposition to the criminal migration scheme.
