A Grateful Dead collection representing July-December 1970 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A mix by Mr. Completely, video by arghdos. ~Caveat Emptor~ This isn’t an audiophile collection.​ If you listen for it you’ll hear shifting mixes, transient wrinkles of distortion, thin draperies of analog tape hiss and assorted other artifacts endemic to the soundboard tape record of the era. If you listen past that, you’ll hear the band in one of their most fascinating and sublime phases, with one step done and another just begun. Think of it as a return to the physical tape trading days, when the music was all analog and was often flawed and incomplete. This the last major era of Dead history that can only be experienced through that lens, and it’s well worth recalibrating your expectations to enjoy it. In fact, my hope is that you’ll be intrigued enough to listen to some of the audience tapes from the year, where the real gems are.
