267th Race For The Town Plate (1932)

Full title reads: “Newmarket, 267th Race for the Town Plate. Miss Audrey Bell - wins historic race - the only one in which women can compete with men. Veteran Mr Frank Simpson - he’s 78! - & winner 17 times - finished second.“ Newmarket, Suffolk. Pan along line up of women jockeys. Woman jockey mounts race horse. Male jockeys are also seen getting ready for the race. The horses are led around the parade ring. L/S horses line up at the start and they’re off. The camera follows the horses as they race along. Shots of the crowds watching the race from the grandstand. The camera follows two horses as they approach the finish neck and neck. As they get further away the horse being ridden by the woman pulls ahead. Miss Audrey Bell is led in on her horse. Once in the winner’s enclosure she dismounts.
