В 1941 году в связи с нападением Нацистской Германии на Советский Союз АССР Немцев Поволжья была упразднена. Началась массовая депортация немцев на Урал, в Сибирь и Среднюю Азию. По окончании Великой Отечественной войны неоднократно предпринимались попытки восстановить немецкую автономию на Волге, но успеха они не имели. Гимном АССР Немцев Поволжья была песня “Die Internationale“ - немецкий перевод гимна РСФСР “Интернационал“. The Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Volga Germans is a state entity within the RSFSR on the territory of the modern Saratov region with its capital in Engels. Historically, it was the first national autonomy in Soviet Russia, organized in 1918. 60% of the population of the republic were ethnic Germans who lived in the Volga region from the end of the 18th century.
