Czech Republic: Anti-COVID restrix protest hits Prague

Protesters gathered in Prague’s city centre on Sunday to rally against the implementation of new measures designed to curb the spike in new COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic. The group of demonstrators gathered near Prague’s historic Old Square held Czech flags and engaged in standoffs with police officers. At the end of last month, Czech lawmakers approved a new state of emergency to tackle the rise in new COVID-19 cases. The vote in the Czech parliament came after days of dispute between the government and opposition parties during which Prime Minister Andrej Babis threatened to bypass parliament to impose the new measures. The Czech Republic is one of the European countries hardest-hit by coronavirus. The new state of emergency is now set to run until March 28 having initially been adopted on February 27.
